Calm voice in sea of extremism

IT takes a supremely brave individual to look into the eyes of Muslim extremists and tell them they are un-Islamic and unbelievers.

That is exactly what Dr Muhammad Tahir ul-Qadri has done and that is why he acclaimed across the world as an enlightened, moderate voice within Islam.

Dr Qadri was born in Pakistan and became a distinguished scholar, lawyer and politician in his home country.

These days he is based in Canada and he travels the world to speak and touch base with members of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, the organisation he founded.

It is described as a worldwide, broad-based moderate Islamic welfare, human rights and education organisation.

Last week he was in Brisbane to address an interfaith meeting at Eight Mile Plains.

Now to say this man and his message are inspirational is something of an understatement.

In a four-hour meeting with Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri various issues of mutual interest were discussed including the role of Muslims in Britain, human rights and integration in British society, and the struggle against extremism. A scholar of war and strategy (including the Qur’anic concepts of war), Dr Hayward fully shares Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri’s scholarly judgement that, regardless of any motives, terrorism can never be supported (and is in fact condemned) by the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

British values and true message of Minhaj-ul-Quran

14 February 2011

The Prime Minister spoke eloquently at the recent Munich security conference about the threat that Britain is currently facing today from terrorism. He emphasised the need for integration, whilst stressing the importance for all British citizens to sign up to core British values such as: democracy, human rights, equality for all and women rights. He also correctly differentiated Islam from Islamic extremists.

It may be a surprise to some that the British values which the Prime Minister referred to are in fact at the essence of traditional classical Islam and of this; most Muslims feel a sense of pride. It is the very fact that these British values are synonymous with classical Islamic belief that has allowed many British Muslims to build a life for themselves and their families as immigrants. These values are the main principles that Minhaj-ul-Quran has been promoting since it was founded in 1980 and according to Islamic traditions derived from the Qur’an and Sunnah, there is no dichotomy whatsoever between British/European values which the Prime Minister emphasised – in fact they are identical. Minhaj-ul-Quran is proud of the success that they have in combining the shared values and the work that it has carried out in its promotion of global peace and harmony in the UK as well as in other western countries without being recipient of any Government funding.

Its founder Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has been tirelessly educating people about these core values of democracy which he believes should become part of a personality, behaviour and attitude. For the last 30 years his consistently endeavoured  to instruct people about these core values in order to challenge the narrow-mindedness and rigidness within sections of  society and bring people out of religious extremism and backwardness.

Multiculturalism: Solution to tackle Extremists through integration NOT assimilation

Today the British Prime Minister will speak about multiculturalism in Britain. However majority of British Muslims will not agree with his view that multiculturalism has failed in the UK. In fact the beauty of multiculturalism has made Britain one of the leading nations in the world and its success in the world is due to its multi-cultural approach over the past decades.

Shahid Mursaleen, spokesman of Minhaj-ul-Quran UK said “I believe people love Britain because of its multi-cultural approach over the past decades. Today Britain is regarded as the best and aspiring country for many nations mainly due to its open, honest and multi-cultural values.”
